Legend Of Korra Theory

One thing bothered me while watching the series “The Legend Of Korra”. Why can Yakone use his magic at any point that he wants but Hama from “The Last Airbender” can only use it at specific points in the month? In the series “The Legend Of Korra” there is a character in season 1 named Yakone. He has the power to control someone's movements in their body using the water from them. This skill was introduced in the series “The Last Airbender” However Hama explains that it can only be done at the end of the month when the moon is full. Unlike Hama Yakone can do it at any time of the day. For today I will be writing about why this may be the case. Reasons (1) Yakone had more practice than Hama. Hama learned while she was a POW. She could only practice once a month meanwhile Yakone could practice while he went about his life as a criminal. Reason (2) Yakone is a second generation of blood benders so he would have a higher understanding of why this works. Hama was the first to understand the concept and how to perform the technique. So naturally She would not know as much due to having the least exposure to the concept. Reason (3) Yakone is from the “Northern Water Tribe” from the series and Hama was from the “southern water tribe”. If you pay attention throughout the first season of the last airbender, the southern water tribe had a series of abductions of water magic masters(including Hama) so there was no one to teach how to perform this magic in Hama’s village. However in the Northern Tribe there are many masters of water. So Yakone likely had a better teacher than Hama. Reason (4) Hama and Yakone had different fighting styles/philosophies. Hama was taught a very traditional style of water magic from her tribe. Yakone learned to merge many philosophies from his town so he had a much broader understanding of how his magic worked. Reason (5) The Northern Tribe has a stronger military and more skilled fighters as seen in both series. So naturally Yakone would have learned from them. Reason (6) Yakone had more cultural influences on his fighting style. Hama grew up in a village solely with water magic users. Yakone lived in an area with rock, fire, water, and air magic users and would be subsequently influenced by their technique. Reason (7) Yakone had friends that were doctors/ medical practitioners as seen in the end of season 1 of The Legend Of Korra. Yakone could have learned the best possible way to manipulate blood in the body with their knowledge. Reason (8) Hama only needed her magic to help her escape; she could have only practiced extensively to escape. However Yakone actively used it to manipulate people. Reason (9) Hama was limited on the types of subjects she could practice on. Hama only practiced on rats in her cell. Yakone practiced on various animals to learn and teach his sons. This gives him more exposure to different organisms for practice. Reason (10) Yakone may have been in better health. Hama was a POW so she could have had life long issues from being malnourished. I hope you enjoyed the topic. Let me know your thoughts in the comments.
