Review and thoughts of The original game Subnautica

Subnautica is a story based sandbox survival game underwater. The story starts with the main research starship getting shot down and the player getting to a life pod and escaping the plummeting ship. The player safely lands on the water in a life pod. The player finds a machine that can build anything he needs for survival. The player forages for food, water and resources. Meanwhile, surviving hostile water creatures and hunting edible fish. Eventually making an underwater base and various submarines and an underwater mech. The player gets various distress calls from crew mates and quickly realizes he is the only survivor of the research ship. He does however find old computer logs on an island of people surviving before him but are presently deceased in the present time of the game we play in. The player gets a call from an orbiting starship that said it will pick up the player and to go to an island for pickup. The player goes to the coordinates to be rescued but an alien building starts to transform and shoots down the ship you were escaping on. The players get a transmission encoded in the alien language but it translates to say the planet was under quarantine and no one can leave or enter the planet's atmosphere. The player ventures into the building and finds data logs that speak of facilities deep under the water of the game. The player checks for infection and results come up positive using gear from his building machine. The player basically is forced to get many materials to upgrade the subs and vehicles until they get to the deepest parts of the game. Finally finding and making the cure for himself. Eventually making a rocket to leave the planet safely due to being cured. Fascinatingly the game has horror/thriller movie elements. There are massive monsters in the game that can kill the player or destroy their subs. This eliminates the safety feeling of the start of the game. My favorite monster in the game is the sea dragon. They have a Tyrannosaurus Rex roar in the game along with the power to shoot the player with fireballs. Meanwhile the player must get rid of the lava power leaches from the hull of the sub to prevent the sub from running out of power. So basically when you deal with the sea dragon you must deal with a slow sub, power leeches, fireballs that can sink you about 1000 meters down in the game and most scary in my opinion fixing the sub when you took too much damage otherwise the player would be killed by the heat of the lava zone they reside in, quickly bleeding off lots of health. Interestingly there were survivors before the events of the game. The survivors consisted of a father and his son(who is a botanist) and a researcher/survival expert. They eventually get to a point where it becomes infeasible to grow their food. The son suggested going to deeper parts of the ocean because they had a sub. The son defied his Father and built a base under the water. The son's base was overrun by crab squids(in the game they look like an octopus with transparent heads that have electricity powers) and his base is destroyed along with him inside. My favorite biomes in the entire game were the underwater caves, specifically the tree of life sections. It was arguably the most peaceful section of the game. It was a safe place to put a base too prior to the lava zone. Most of all the big tree made the entire area look cool. Overall this was one of my favorite games within the last 10 years. I highly recommend it.
