Last Airbender and Clone Wars Theory

For this post I will be doing something a little different. This post will not be a review of a movie/show but a composition of evidence for certain characters in the media that I think may be based on real people in history. In the series Star Wars the Clone Wars there was a series of episodes that took place on a planet called “Umbara''.Krell is depicted as a large alien that wields 2 double sabers in the series. Typically Jedi wield 1 or 2 sabers however he is comparably more powerful because of his menacing size and sabers. During this series of episodes Anakin's squad was run by a jedi named Krell. Krell was the polar opposite to Anikin. Krell was a tyrant in the series of episodes. Krell gave orders and tactics that caused many of them to die. This is not unusual for a war story but one of the Clones points out that he had high casualty numbers. Krell even went as far as to trick his soldiers into a friendly fire battle against themselves. He tricked them by saying that their enemy stole their clone armor(keep in mind they have armor that covers their face and body). During the skirmish they realized they were killing their squad when one of the soldiers found a body of the clone. The clones eventually execute Krell for his atrocities. In the series “Avatar The Last Airbender” there is a character that makes very few appearances in the series named Sozin. He is an early tyrant of the series. In his early life he demonstrated high planning skills and talents for martial arts. Sozin’s family is royalty in his land and because of this he was deified. If you pay attention closely to the fire power in the series most fire powers are almost like a small flamethrower however Sozins is almost explosion like signifying more power than a typical practitioner. Sozin grew up to start a war with the world looking to expand his empire. However his closest friend told him he should not try to expand his land because the land belonged to other people. Sozin even defies his friend to expand. In the end of his life he lets his friend die so he can start a war with the world unattested. Oda Nobunaga was a real daimyo from Japan who conquered all of Japan. He created a large army made from peasants. His family were in opposition to his reign, some family members even ordering murder attempts on him. When the monks of the island did not submit to his rule they rebelled as a result he ordered them to be executed (keep in mind most of the island were Buddists at this time). As a result of this his army did not adhere well to their leader ordering them to kill symbols of their beliefs and culture. There were a few rebellions towards Nobunaga with the goal to perform a coup against him. They surrounded him in one of his towers and he subsequently died. I think it's possible that Sozin and General Krell are loosely based on Oda Nobunaga. In both Krell and Sozin’s respective stories both of them are depicted as greedy and fierce fighters. In Sozin's story specifically he commences a series of sieges of the Air nomad temples the real world counterpart of Nobunaga’s order to kill the monks, in the series the last air bender the Nomads actually have a lot of realworld beliefs of the monks. In Krells story he tricks the clones to kill their teammates(which they consider like family) and the clones execute him as a result of this. Both Sozin and Krell were very powerful beings in their respective series. Unlike Sozin Krell was executed like Nobunaga however Sozin was not executed in his series. Krells army did not agree with his leadership however Sozin’s army followed him but he had former friends that opposed his desire for conquest. I know that the events of all the stories don't line up exactly but I thought it was a decent fit for these characters. I thought it would be interesting to write about how similar these characters are thematically and represented by real world historical figures.
